Uniform Guidance – July 2024

If a student is not wearing the correct uniform, it is imp/wp-content/uploads/sites/5/2024/07/Uniform_2425_JAM.pdfortant this is sorted at the earliest opportunity. The table below shows how different issues are addressed. Where possible, we have a stock of clean, nearly new, spare/loan items to help students and families to meet our uniform expectations while their uniform is corrected. If your child does not have the correct uniform please write a note for them explaining the situation and saying when it will be corrected (e.g. sole fallen off shoes, buying new ones tonight). All teachers monitor uniform on a daily basis and contact home when concerns arise.

Uniform Expectation:

School grey blazer, with school badge*.

Students in year 7, 8 and 9 must wear a school blazer as part of their compulsory
school uniform. These students can, if they wish, also wear a school V-neck jumper
under their blazer

Black, formal long trousers. Only smart plain tailored black trousers, no jeans or jean style, denims, leggings or casual trousers.

A black V-neck QEGS jumper is allowed under the QEGS blazer. Please note, if students wear a jumper for school, they must also wear the school blazer.

Students in years 10 and 11 must wear either a school blazer or/and school jumper with school badge. Students in year 7, 8 and 9 must wear a school blazer as part of their compulsory

Uniform Expectation:

Plain black tights and black socks only. Summer uniform: black socks can be worn in replacement of black tights. Long socks or ankle socks can be worn.

Uniform Expectation:

Plain black lace-up or slip-on shoe/boot in a formal style. Please note that trainers are not permitted (inc plain black trainers e.g. Nike Air and Vans).

Uniform Expectation:

(not compulsory) It is recommended that students have an appropriate winter coat or rain jacket for the colder months of the year. Coats are not to be worn in class during lessons and should not include any imagery, logos or patterns that may be considered inappropriate or would bring the school into disrepute.

Uniform Expectation:

Students may wear a watch on their wrist, and one small stud in each ear. No other jewellery is permitted. Only a small, flat, fully clear retainer may be worn in the nose. No metal, sparkling, coloured studs, or
nose rings please. We will ask students to remove any piercings which are not in line with this. .

Hairstyles should not be extreme.

No excessive makeup is allowed, this includes false eyelashes.

Uniform Expectation:

Not allowed, natural nails only, no false nails, gels, acrylic or extensions allowed.

Mobile phones are permitted on site but should not be worn on a students’ person, in pockets etc. Mobile phones must be kept in school bags and will be confiscated if seen. Two confiscations results in parents/ carers having to collect. Students can bring in padlocks to access lockers and they will be able to bring their bags into the canteen at lunch and break.

Items marked * should be ordered from ‘School’s In’ (formerly Trutex Meir) as these items carry the Academy logo.

Please note: in hot weather our Uniform Policy is reviewed and may be adapted.

  • QEGS PE rugby shirt or polo shirt
  • QEGS PE midlayer
  • QEGS PE mid-thigh length skort or QEGS PE shorts or plain black tracksuit bottoms or plain black leggings
  • Red sports socks or white ankle socks;
  • Trainers & football boots.
  • Shinpads
  • Gum shield

Please note that hoodies are not part of school uniform and should not be worn. However, if students want to bring an additional layer, to wear during their PE lesson, this can consist of the QEGS midlayer, a plain black sweatshirt or a plan black shower proof jacket, for outdoor activities. From September 2021, QEGS branded hoodies will not be permitted PE kit. This is based on Health and Safety guidance.

For outdoor lessons, particularly for options that take place on the playing fields in the first two terms, students are encouraged to bring spare QEGS PE kit or their school uniform so that they can get changed at the end of the lesson, if they are wet or covered in mud.


Aprons for practical subjects are available to hire or purchase from the relevant department.

ALL clothing must be clearly marked with a student’s name.
